Dear Parson,
Can America be saved from destruction?
Yes, especially if we do what the large, wicked city of Ninevah did in response to God’s promise of destruction in forty days (Jonah 3:4-10).
1. They believed God’s warning.
2. They proclaimed and began a complete fast of food and drink for everyone.
3. They all turned from their evil ways.
4. They cried mightily unto God.
When God saw their actions He turned from His promised destruction. However, all the people of Noah’s day, except Noah and his family, rejected God’s warning and perished, as did the Sodomites of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19).
God left a warning with directions in Joel 2:12-13 to which we should take heed – “Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.” II Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Ezekiel 33:11 – “Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?”
