William “Bill” Joseph Schmidt, Sr., 80, of Payne, Ohio passed away October 31, 2021.
Bill was born in Payne on May 2, 1941 a son of the late Harry and Ida (Carpenter) Schmidt.
Everyone will remember this husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, millwright, lawnmower man, fun loving, hard working and honest man. Anyone who knew Bill was blessed with a great story. He loved his cars, workshop, coon dog trials, Indy time trials, tractors, mowers and his little buddy, Tucker. Bill worked in upper management at International Harvester, Fort Wayne and Navistar, Springfield, Ohio for 36.5 years. His expertise was sought for 10 years by Navistar in Mexico, Canada, Texas and Mississippi. Bill was also a member of the Paulding Eagles, Payne Knights of Columbus, the Muddy River Run Car Club, Fort Wayne and a social member of the Payne American Legion.
Bill will be sadly missed by his wife, Linda (Franklin); children, William Schmidt, Jr (Paula), Kevin Schmidt (Tammy Poth), Aimee Smeed (Ronald Salsbury) and Ann Forrer (Brad Kauser); siblings, Paul, Roy (Joann) & Lucille Schmidt, Delores Daugherty, Victoria Fisher & Betty Rister; sister-in-law, Donna Schmidt; 10 grandchildren & 21 great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Glen Schmidt.
Viewing is Thursday, Nov 4, 2021, 4 – 7 pm and Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, 9 – 9:30 am at Dooley Funeral Home, 5761 SR 500, Payne.
Funeral mass is Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, 10 am, at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 203 W Townline St, Payne.
He will be laid to rest in St John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Payne.
