The Heritage Lions met on Tuesday at the Hoagland Community Center. Mariam Lomidze, a Heritage Junior and exchange student from the country of Georgia, gave a very interesting talk on the culture of her country, including their dances, language, traditions, history, and handwriting. She showed the Lions where Georgia is located, how they used to be a part of the USSR until 1991, and how Russia remains a threat on their northern border. Mariam will remain in our country until next June. She said that many things are different in the US from what she is used to, but she seems to be coping very well and enjoying her year abroad.
The Lions then filled over 50 Christmas bags for local shut-ins. Meijer, Nolan Repair, and Darlington donated goodies to go in the bags, and Thrivent Financial helped with a cash gift. The 4th grade class at St. John-Emanuel Lutheran School adorned each bag with their colorful drawings. Several Lions volunteered to deliver the bags to shut-ins and the elderly in the area. Refreshments were served after the meeting.
The Heritage Lions motto is “We Serve” and we welcome anyone who wishes to help their local community to contact a Heritage Lion.
