Antwerp will roll south on Interstate 75 this week as the Archers cruised past Tiffin Calvert 52-31 to seize a spot in the Division IV boys basketball Final Four Saturday and Sunday at the University of Dayton.
Antwerp took control in the game’s opening eight minutes, posting a 16-10 lead at the end of one quarter and the Archers never looked back.
The blue and white outscored Tiffin Calvert 9-6 in the second stanza to expand the margin to 25-16 at the midway point of the contest. Antwerp then added a dozen markers in the third stanza while Tiffin Calvert grabbed ten, giving the Archers a 37-26 lead going to the final quarter.
Senior Jagger Landers paced Antwerp in the contest, putting together a 22-point, 17-rebound performance while adding two assists and a steal.
Landon Brewer chipped in a dozen markers to go along with six rebounds and two assists and Carson Altimus recorded ten points.
Luke Krouse aided the Archer cause with four points and four assists while Kaden Recker and Gaige McMichael both had two points. Parker Moore also had two rebounds for Antwerp.
Tiffin Calvert was paced by Blake Ronski with a dozen markers while recording three rebounds and three steals. Nick Palm and Nolan Beeker both finished with six points and Ethan Sauber totaled three markers. Garrett Spaun and Max Paul also totaled a basket each for the Senecas.
Antwerp (26-1) will play Tri Village (25-3) at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the University of Dayton in the Division IV semifinals. The other game features Richmond Heights (23-4) against Berlin Hiland (23-4) at 10:45 a.m.
Senior Layne Sarver scored a game-high 20 points to lead Tri-County past Botkins. This will be the fourth trip to the state tournament for the Patriots, who won the 2015 state championship and were state runners-up in 1991. Tri Village also advanced to the state tournament in 2014.
