OAKWOOD – Emma Louise Grimes, 93, of Oakwood, died at 4:55 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Vancrest of Holgate. She was born August 20, 1928 in Tiffin to the late Paul E. and Anna May (Bice) Schafer. After her parents died, she went to live with the late Milo and Mable Rhees. On June 7, 1946, she married Charles “Jim” Grimes, he preceded her in death on December 6, 2015.
Survivors include six children: Ronald Grimes of New Castle, IN, Marjorie (Jack) Spangler of Jacksonville, FL, Diane Kay Halaska of Tehachapi, CA, Denise (Larry) Derge, David Grimes, both of Defiance, Randal (Debra) Grimes of Paulding; an honorary daughter: Alana (Joe) Essex of Oakwood; a son-in-law, Gary Wagner of Oakwood; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Frances Skiver of Defiance, Frannie Matson and Kathleen Goodwin, both of Oakwood; and a brother: Gale Rhees, also of Oakwood.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel “Jeanne” Wagner; a son, Roger Grimes; a granddaughter, a great-grandson; 3 brothers-in-law: Norva Skiver, Eddie Matson, and Bob Goodwin; and a sister-in-law: Janice Rhees
Louise was a member of Twin Oaks United Methodist Church, Oakwood, and was once one of the original members of the Centenary United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and reading. Louise loved just being a mom, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma.
A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Twin Oaks United Methodist Church, Oakwood with Pastor Rick Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Sherman Cemetery, Oakwood. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2022 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood, and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
