Paulding Soil and Water Conservation District, Paulding County Park District, the Paulding County Park District, and Lafarge of Paulding, are planning several events to celebrate Earth Day 2022, kick off the National Association of Conservation District’s (NACD) 67th Stewardship Week, and Arbor Day.
On Friday, April 22nd, the Paulding Lafarge Plant is partnering with Paulding Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD), to celebrate Earth Day 2022 from 10 am to noon at the Lafarge plant’s main office. Then, on Saturday, April 23rd, you are invited to the Black Swamp Nature Center, 753 Fairground Dr., at 8:00AM for a site clean-up, mulching, and light trail maintenance. We will provide trash bags and work gloves. Please bring pruning tools/trimmers if you have them. We will be giving away a limited number of tree seedlings Saturday morning and doughnuts will also be provided. Opportunities to help later in the day exist at the Paulding County Parks. Visit New Rochester Park, 11885 Rd. 424, Cecil from 10:00AM – 2:00PM. Stop Saturday and help make Paulding County a better place to live and play!
Summary
The Nature Center is managed by Paulding Soil and Water Conservation District and is located on the South side of Paulding on the corner of Fairground Drive and Road 107. The site is 51 acres of woodland, wetlands, meadows, and a pollinator garden. This area is open to the public from dawn to dusk for walking on the natural trails, fishing in the Flatrock, and other forms of out- door recreation. The Nature Center building is available for workshops, training, meetings, youth groups, and personal rentals. As the SWCD Staff prepare the area for summer activities, we are asking for the communities help in cleaning up the site. By collaborating with community organiza- tions, their employees, and Paulding County residents, we hope to help foster a sense of pride and stewardship.
