ALL WE NEED IS “3”

Penny For Your Thoughts

Maybe I am ancient, because I  remember when we did not have a television.

In fact, for entertainment we had a big cabinet sized radio that we gathered around and listened to.

When we finally got a TV, we thought we were in seventh heaven. Back in the day, we only had three channels to choose from and none of the TV sets had remotes.

In fact, we had never heard of a remote or even realized someday we would have one.

We had three major channels which were ABC, NBC and CBS. However, we did have some really good shows to watch.

Today, some of those old TV shows are still being shown as re-runs. I love looking at those old shows and seeing that old familiar furniture we had.

Now, I love remotes and I appreciate all the channels we get to watch. I sit back and with quick fingers and a steady hand, I can flip through television channels very quickly.

I enjoy the Discovery Channels, the ID Channel and the Food Network.

One channel that most of us ladies like to watch is the Hallmark Channel.

About October, a lot of us will be glued to Hallmark to watch all the Christmas movies.

Those movies, looked forward to by many, are usually set around lots of snow, cookies, trees, caroling and hot chocolate. Plus, there are always a romance involved in the plot.

These TV Christmas movies have made themselves well loved and enjoyed in many homes. I want to move to a Hallmark town at Christmas.

With lots of channels to choose from, sometimes, I still say, ” There is just nothing good on TV to watch tonight.”

Really! Then I think about those three channels from long ago, I grab the remote and channel surf.

While channel surfing, I find shows on just about everything.

There are shows with dance competitions, singing, cooking, racing, wrestling and tattooing.

There are shopping channels, gospel channels with lots of good preaching.  and there is even a dog channel for your dog to enjoy.

Of course, we have access to Disney, many cartoons, old movies, new movies and pay-per-view movies.

One of my favorite type of shows are those about animals.

There are also a veterinarian show that I like. One in particular is Dr. K’s Exotic Animal ER.

I watch in amazement as the doctor treats pigs, skunks, lizards, bearded dragons, bunnies and squirrels.

Exotic animals get sick and injured also, and a lot of people have these strange animals as pets.

One such lady who came into the animal clinic loved mice (of all things). I don’t know how she developed a love for mice, but she came with the little critter held in her hands.

Holding the little mouse, she told Dr. K the mouse had been wheezing. She was worried about the mouse, but the doctor told her that mice have a very short life span, so just enjoy the time it had left.

You know I still love the old television shows. We can still watch repeats of “The Beverly Hillbillies,” “Hee Haw,” “Andy Griffith,” Happy Days,” “M.A.S.H. “and even “The 3 Stooges.”

In retrospect, it was nice sitting in the living room at night years ago, when our kids were little and all of us watching “The Brady Bunch,” “Name that Tune” or “Little House on the Prairie.”

Good shows, good memories and good evenings with family.

How about your TV watching preferences? Do you like the old shows? Do you ever say, “There’s nothing on TV tonight?”

How many television channels is enough? Let me know, and I’ll give you a Penny for Your Thoughts.
