HAVILAND – After coming off a solid road win last Friday (18-14 over Fort Recovery) Wayne Trace was looking for win number two. Playing before their home crowd the Raiders fell flat, allowing mistakes and missed opportunity’s, to dictate the final score. Being shut out, the red, white and blue came up short against non-conference foe Patrick Henry 12-0.
In the low scoring affair, the Patriots managed to put two scores on the board in the second quarter. At the 11:31 mark quarterback Nash Meyer connected on a 12-yard TD pass to receiver Landon Johnson. The two-point conversion failed. Later in the period, Meyer punched it in from the one-yard line with 3:44 remaining and the Patriots enjoyed a 12-0 advantage in what would be all the scoring in the contest.
Although the Raiders were kept out of the end zone, they still had their scoring opportunities. Managing to get inside the 20-yard line the Raiders were stopped on a Patriot interception by Mason Schwiebert. In the fourth quarter the Raiders were moving the ball but again inside the 20-yard line the drive stalled on an incomplete pass on a fourth down play. Later again in the fourth and knocking on the door the Raiders were hit with a turnover as the offense fumbled the ball back over to Patrick Henry.
For Wayne Trace, the Raiders finished with 125 total yards offensively with 117 coming in the air and just eight yards on the ground. The Raiders battled mistakes all night with four interceptions and three fumbles–losing one of them. The Raiders were penalized nine times for 93 yards.
Individually, Kyle Slade finished with 27 yards on 12 carries while Kyle Stoller passed for 117 yards completing 17 of 42. Top receivers for the red, white, and blue were Dylan Hildebrand with 39 yards on four receptions and Tucker Antoine with 22 yards on five grabs.
For the victorious Patriots, who improve their season mark at 2-0, Meyers rushed for 60 yards on 22 attempts with team mate Cody McCance adding 35 yards of real estate on 7 tries. Nash was good on 96 yards in the air on six of 15. Leading receiver was Landon Johnson with 35 yards on just two catches.
Defensively for the Raiders, Lane Morehead and Elliott Boroff each recorded a fumble recovering while Race Price and Derrek Dangler intercepted a pass.
Archer football hosted the Edon Bombers on Friday evening, August 26th. Archers were on fire taking the ball to the end zone twice in the first quarter, Edon grabbed one in the 1st. Ditto for the second quarter. After half-time, momentum increased for the both teams, as they each took the ball to score 3 each. But it was the final quarter that the Archers scored one last goal to win the game. Final score: 54-32.
