WOODBURN – The Woodlan Warrior football team moved over the .500 mark Friday night with a 16-14 victory over Culver Academies outside of Woodburn.
The win pushes Woodlan to 4-3 overall on the season while the Warriors remain 2-2 in ACAC action with games at South Adams October 7 and at home against Adams Central October 14.
Drew Fleek paced the Woodlan attack with 115 rushing yards in the contest over 19 carries, including one for a touchdown. Conner Mayne also picked up 16 yards on the ground for the Warriors.
Quarterback Jacob Snyder completed 7 of 11 passes for Woodlan, covering 78 yards, while also running for 44 yards on 13 carries with one going for a score.
Dejay Gerig topped the Woodlan receivers with four catches for 56 yards while Chase Bennett, Luke Meyer and Dawson Lichty each had one reception.
The Warriors totaled 177 rushing yards in the contest and 255 yards overall.
Mayne paced the Woodlan defense with a dozen tackles on the night and Blake Reed picked up ten stops. Ethan Vardaman also had eight tackles for the Warriors while Jaxson Fleek recorded seven and Jayse Kurtz finished with five. Gerig, Hunter Bennet, Dray Lewis and Jack Culler all had three tackles.
Mayne, Chase Bennett, Vardaman, Reed, Hunter Bennet and Jaxson Fleek all had a tackle for loss for the Warriors and Chase Bennet recorded a fumble recovery.
Culver Academies falls to 1-6 on the season with the loss, which is the sixth straight for the Eagles.
