MILITARY HISTORY IN PAULDING COUNTY

David Henry Rinearson was born June 15, 1889 in Payne, Ohio. The son of Jesse and Harriet “Hatie” (Jones) Rinearson. Jessie was born November 16, 1855 in Indiana and Harriet was born July 15, 1855 in Indiana. The couple was married January 16, 1875 in Indiana. A daughter Rose Ella was born November 18, 1875. Another daughter Etta, was born May 13, 1878. Then came David and on April 18, 1892, a son, Frederic Belle was born. 

By 1900, the Rinearson family had moved to Payne, Ohio, living on Oak Street. Jessie was a common laborer. The daughters had married and moved out of the house. David, age ten, and Frederic, age eight, were in school. 

By 1910, the Rinearson family were still in Payne living on Oak Street. Jesse was a laborer working on ditches. David, age twenty, was working at odd jobs. His brother Frederic also was working at odd jobs. 

David’s brother Frederic Belle, passed away, May 26, 1916. As America was drawn into war in Europe, men had to register for the draft. On June 5, 1917 at the Payne north precinct, David registered. He was listed as tall and slender build, blue eyes and black hair. On May 23, 1918, David signed up to serve in the army. David was assigned to the Medical Corps Camp at Greenleaf, Georgia. He served with this unit until July 12, 1918. 

August 8, 1918 David was assigned as a cook. Serving in France on November 12, 1918, David served with Medical Base Hospital #71, November 18,- January 21, 1919. On July 8, 1919, David boarded the ship, “Black Arrow”, and left France at the port of Bordeaux, France. Ship lands at Camp Stuart, Newport News, Virginia. After David returned home, he served with Headquarters Detachment Army Service Corp to discharge, July 21, 1919. David was honorably discharged July 29, 1919. 

By 1920, David moved back to Payne living with his parents and worked as a laborer at a poultry farm. David’s father, Jessie, passed away March 1924. His mother, Harriet, passed away May 27, 1928. His brother and parents are buried in Lehman Cemetery, Payne. 

David passed away, January 16, 1929 and is buried in Lehman Cemetery. He is buried in Section A. Lot 298, Grave 1. His sister, Etta Kuntz, signed for his tombstone. His military stone was approved May 23, 1930, ordered September 11, 1930, shipped December 10, 1930. Etta passed away, January 5, 1963 and David’s other sister, Rose Ella Kigar passed away, March 10, 1969.
