State Senator Rob McColley (R-Napoleon) honored track champions from two Northwest Ohio high schools at the State Capitol.
Wayne Trace High School junior Sydnee Sinn, winner of the state title in the Division III girls 400-meter, was joined by her teammates on the 1,600-meter relay team, also winners of a state Championship in June.
Sinn finished her race 1.7 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor during the state championships in June. Sinn and teammates Rachel Stoller, Kiara Bahena, and Gracie Shepherd captured the first girls’ 1600 relay state title in Wayne Trace history, winning by 2.4 seconds.
The triumph was a rewarding payoff for members of the relay team after a second place finish a year ago. Sinn’s victory was especially sweet after finishing fourth last year.
Also honored was Ottawa-Glandorf junior Alexa Fortman, who won two state titles at the Division II Track and Field Championships in June. Alexa won the 400-meter dash nearly a full second ahead of her nearest competitor. She also won the 800 meter dash state championship by breaking a record that stood for more than a decade.
“It is always a great honor to bring state champions to the statehouse for some well-deserved recognition.” said McColley. “I wish each of these young ladies great success in their futures.”
