It was just announced this week by Berlin Raceway in Michigan, that Brad Keselowski, Hailie Deegan, Ryan Newman, and Bobby Labonte have all announced they will be participating in the August 3rd SRX Racing at the Berlin Raceway!
These drivers become the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh drivers to formally announce their 2023 SRX plans. The four will be joining Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, and Hélio Castroneves in this racing event. If you enjoy the Dirt Track experience, no problem because some of these same drivers will be at the famous Eldora ½ mile on August 10th for the SRX Race they will host. The nice thing about the tri-state is we have the nation’s best Dirt and Asphalt Racetracks. For more information visit both tracks Facebook and Web Pages.
Last week’s announcement by Gas City I-69 Speedway didn’t give any answers about the changes that are coming to this great area racetrack. It only added more questions from fans, drivers and race teams wondering if the track will move from years of Friday night racing to Saturday. This will be a huge mistake in my opinion. Car counts would drop because drivers would have to decide if they wanted to race Gas City, Kokomo, or Montpelier. Gas City runs UMP Modifieds and so does Montpelier. Kokomo runs Non-winged Sprints and that’s the headline class at Gas City too. Drivers would have to decide what tracks to race and then you would have a track war to attract the best cars for your weekly shows and special events. To make matters worse, Larry Boos that sent out the press release about Gas City, just stepped away from his position at Montpelier this week. Here’s a couple of quotes from his press release. “After a one year and half run at the historic facility, I will be moving away in 2023. There are many reasons behind the move, but social media is not the place to air them. Those that need to know, do know and we’ll leave it at that”. And “Chad King will be taking over the operation and I wish him well, he has many great ideas and a ton of enthusiasm. He will be a welcome addition and I urge you to support him”. I’ve reached out to Larry but haven’t heard back. Stay tuned.
If you follow the 500 Sprint Car Tour, they’ve just added Lorain Raceway Park in Amherst Ohio to their 2023 calendar. These Non-Winged Asphalt Sprints will tackle the famous 3/8th mile on September 9th for the first time. Lorain is built for speed. It’s home to Winged Supermodifieds, 350 Crate Outlaw Supers and Winged-Outlaw Sprints. Already some of the top pavement Sprint Car drivers in the country have announced they plan to attend this inaugural event. Track promoter, Jared Owen is excited to get this event for Lorain Raceway Park.
The first driver to sign up to compete in the 70th Anniversary Hoosier Hundred is none other than Indiana native Gregg Cory the 2022 USCA Silver Crown Rookie of The Year. Sign-ups for entrants started for the April 23rd race last Wednesday. This years Hoosier Hundred will be at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. Tickets and pit passes are already on sale. For the die-hard race fans, they even have combo passes available for the pits and grandstands.
Until next week, keep your wheels on the pavement. Remember the Ohio Sports Blitz Facebook page has your area’s Live scoreboard nightly through basketball state tournament. Scores from over 18 conferences for the die-hard sports fan. Ron Out!
