DELPHOS – Antwerp hit the road to Allen County Saturday afternoon where the visiting Archers held on for a 43-41 victory over Delphos St. John’s in non-league action.
The Blue Jays seized a 14-11 lead at the end of eight minutes of action before the Archers rallied to seize a 22-21 halftime advantage, outscoring Delphos St. John’s 11-7 in the period.
Antwerp then extended the margin in the third quarter, racking up 14 points in the stanza while Delphos St. John’s scored eight as the Archers widened the gap to 36-29 entering the final quarter.
The visiting Archers scored just enough in the final period, bucketing seven markers compared to the Blue Jays’ dozen as Antwerp held on for the 43-41 victory.
Landon Brewer topped the blue and white with 16 points (and reached his 1000th point! Congratulations Landon!) and Reid Lichty chipped in 13 markers as Antwerp improved to 17-3 on the season. Carson Altimus also had eight points for Antwerp followed by Parker Moore (three) and Camden Fuller (three).
Cameron Elwer paced Delphos St. John’s with 16 points and Jack Gerker chipped in nine markers for the Blue Jays, who fall to 15-6 overall.
Also finding the scoring column for the Blue Jays were Landen Grothaus (seven), Austin Moenter (five), Nolan Schwinnen (two) and Aaron Moenter (two).
The Blue Jay junior varsity recorded a 40-34 over the Archers.
