BRYAN – A big third quarter broke open a close game and the Ayersville Lady Pilots went on to a 44-24 win over Antwerp in Division IV girls basketball sectional final action at Bryan High School Saturday night.
With the victory, the Lady Pilots (17-6) move on to play Stryker (18-6) at 6:00 p.m. at Defiance High School in a district semifinal.
Aewyn McMichael topped the Lady Archers with 11 points in the contest while Hayleigh Jewell chipping in six points. Caroline Rohrs also had four points for the blue and white followed by Emma Townley (two) and Katryna Fish (one).
Ayersville was paced by Kaylee Dockery and Ally Schindler with 16 points apiece while Neva Sheets recorded five and Kendra Waldron posted four. Kiersten Manon provided the final points for the Lady Pilots with a three-point field goal.
After one quarter, it was the Lady Pilots who held a slim 8-6 advantage before Ayersville picked up six points in the second quarter compared to Antwerp’s five as the Pilots took a 14-11 lead at the midway point.
Ayersville then broke the game wide open in the third quarter, bucketing 21 points compared to Antwerp’s ten as the Pilots seized a 35-21 lead entering the final stanza.
In the fourth quarter, the Defiance County squad picked up nine markers while the Lady Archers had three to set Pilot 44-24 victory.
Antwerp ends its season with an overall record of 14-10.
