On March 3-4, 2023, the Wayne Trace Raiders made the trip to the Hobart Arena in Troy, Ohio for the District Tournament. The Raiders sent five wrestlers to represent Wayne Trace. Sam Moore punched his ticket to state by placing fourth place in the 165-pound weight class. Moore defeated Zander Davis of Indian Lake with a score of 7-0 in the first round. Sam then went on to pin Hunter Randall of Miami East in 3:25. In round three, Moore fell to Rod Owens of Alter with a score of 10-4, knocking Moore to the consolation bracket. There, Sam defeated Will Callicoat of Fairland with a score of 13-2 and he secured spot at the state tournament. Moore fell to Michael Osborne of Versailles in the third and fourth place match with a score of 5-0. Sam will travel to the Schottenstein to compete on the state floor beginning March 10th. In the 120-pound weight class, Corbin Kimmel faced Nolan Earles of Preble Shawnee. Kimmel was up 4-2 in the final seconds of the match when his arm buckled and dislocated. Due to the significant injury, Kimmel had to be taken to the hospital and was unable to compete going forward.
Jared Pierce competed in the 138-pound weight class. Pierce won the first round with a score of 8-6 over Connar Mitchell. Pierce fell to Brayden Brown of Legacy Christian in round two and went to the consolation bracket. Round three was a win for Pierce by default of his opponent, Silas Prather. Pierce then fell to Nathan Opichka of Madeira with a score of 8-3. This put Pierce out of the running for state, ending his career at the Districts.
In the 150-pound weight class, Graiden Troth competed. Troth won his first match with a score of 9-7 over Trenton Grigsby of Bethel-Tate. Graiden was then defeated in round two by Quentin Grillot 13-5, knocking Troth to the consolation bracket. For round three, Troth faced Zeran Brady. The match ended with a close score of 8-7 and ending his season as well.
In the 175-pound weight class, Nate Osborn faced Austin Sellers. Osborn lost with a score of 7-4, dropping him to the consolation bracket. In his second match of the day, Osborn made light work of Tristen Davis with a pin in 1:33. Osborn then fell to Kyle Lathrop of Columbus Grove in a close match that went to overtime and a score of 6-4.
