First United Methodist Church, located at 113 W. Central Avenue in Van Wert, Ohio is planning their upcoming Lenten and Resurrection services.
Palm Sunday, April 2 will feature children and choir processing with palm leaves at the 8:15 and 10:45am services. Pastor Chris Farmer will give the sermon: “When Christ Comes to Town” based on the scripture from Matthew 21:1-11 The 8:15am early service features a casual style of worship, while the 10:45am service features traditional liturgy and music.
On Maundy Thursday, April 6, we invite all members of the Community to join us in Celebrating “Christ in the Passover” with the Trinity Friends Church. This worshipful event will begin at 6:30 PM at Trinity Friends Church. Pre-registration is required.
First Church will host the traditional community Good Friday service on April 7 beginning at 12:05pm. The service will begin with a procession of the cross beginning at 11:50am from the corner of Cherry and E Main Streets, in front of the YWCA. After processing down Main Street to First Church, the service will begin with a special offering being taken for ‘Haven of Hope.’ This is an initiative to address homelessness in Van Wert County. Special music will also be incorporated in this community service. The greater Van Wert community is invited to attend and worship together.
Resurrection, or Easter Sunday, April 9 will be celebrated in all its glory and splendor during both of our Worship experiences at 8:15 and 10:45 AM. Brass instruments will be featured at the 10:45 worship experience along with the Chancel Choir in a regal service celebrating the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Pastor Chris Farmer will be delivering the sermon: “Filled with New Life” from the scripture of Matthew 28:1-10.
