Monday July 3rd a celebration of America will take place at the boat launch in Antwerp Veterans Memorial Park at 6:00 p.m. This idea was sparked by local resident, Dan Bowers, owner of Advanced Chassis. This new inaugural event has been dubbed “Rock on the River”. It is reminiscent of past celebrations experienced by Bowers. “When I was in college in Toledo every Friday they had the “Party in the Park”. We would work over during the week so we could leave early to get down there to see big name bands (at the time) for free on the water at Promenade Park. One thing I was always jealous of was the people that were out in boats on the river watching,” Bowers stated in his Facebook post when he pitched this idea to the social media world. And when his group was putting in the canoe launch, they created an area so bands could be watched while relaxing on the water.
If you enjoy canoeing, people plan to canoe starting at Pond-A-River golf course and ending at the park river stage area before the concert begins at 6:00. This could take several hours, so plan accordingly. After the concert, if funds are available, a fireworks display will take place to conclude the evening.
This celebration is being put together by volunteer hours and manpower and will be FREE for all who choose to attend, but if you would like to contribute to what everyone is hoping will become an annual event, they are welcoming any kind of donation or fundraisers by organizations, group, individuals, etc.
