HICKSVILLE, OH:
Gwen Janeice Perry passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the age of 85, surrounded by her family.
Gwen was the fourth of five children, born to the late Walter and Wilda Scranton in Milford Township, Ohio on January 22, 1938. Gwen graduated from Farmer High School in 1956 as a valedictorian. She enjoyed playing the drums in the school band and being in 4-H, where she met her husband.
She married Eddie on July 21, 1957, at Evangelical United Brethren Church (now Trinity United Methodist Church) in Hicksville. She worked at Farnsworth Electronic in Fort Wayne, Ind. before she became a full-time mom.
Gwen was active in the church community. She contributed to a variety of church missions and activities, volunteering for vacation bible school, teaching Sunday school, singing in the church choir and meeting with Circle of Friends. She was a 4-H group leader and a softball coach for her children. She belonged to the neighborhood club, the All Together Club, for many years. Gwen enjoyed spending time with her family, attending children’s and grandchildren’s events and helping on the farm.
Gwen will be missed by her husband Eddie Perry; siblings Millard (Sue) Scranton of Hicksville, Anna (Earl) Crall of Hicksville, Carl Scranton of Amelia, Ohio; children, Jan (Angel) Perry of Hicksville, Jay (Melanie) Perry of Payne, Tenly (Charles) Trautman of Mebane, N.C. and Tammy (Roger) Buenger of Bryan; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Muriel Andrews; brother-in-law, James Andrews; and her sister-in-law, Artis Scranton.
Visitation for Gwen will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526. Funeral services begin on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Hicksville with viewing one hour before the service.
Gwen will be laid to rest at Forest Home Cemetery in Hicksville following the funeral service.
