Becky Gonzalez, director of human resources operations, Parkview Health, has been recognized as a statewide HR Standout in the 2023 Indianapolis Business Journal HR Impact Awards. The award recognizes human resources professionals who excel in their roles leading or facilitating HR for their companies.
Gonzalez joined Parkview in 2007 as an HR manager and has served in her current role as director of HR operations since October 2019. In her role, she oversees day-to-day HR needs for Parkview and its more than 15,000 clinical and professional co-workers.
“Becky has given her heart and soul to her role and helped move HR in a new and exciting direction,” said Hallie Custer, vice president of human resources, Parkview Health. “Because of Becky’s leadership, our first priority is our co-workers and how we can wrap our arms around them and give them the support that they need – both personally and professionally.”
Gonzalez was recognized as an HR Standout for her innovative approach to managing staff retention and engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic. Gonzalez and her team helped to address labor challenges by developing the Co-worker Assistance, Retention and Engagement (CARE) Program. The CARE Program was created and utilized not only to support co-workers with financial or basic needs assistance due to economic shutdowns during the pandemic, but also to fill skill gaps, fight burnout or help co-workers find new positions within the health system via a new match program.
The CARE program assisted more than 500 employees in 2022 and has helped thousands since its inception. The now seven-member CARE team provides ongoing support and was expanded this year with addition of the new Co-worker Connect Line, a phone number that makes it easy for co-workers to connect with resources for their mental, physical, financial or professional needs.
Gonzalez also served as one of many subject-matter experts for the 2020 “Roadmap to a Healthy Reopening” webinar series, organized by Greater Fort Wayne Inc. and the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership. More than 3,000 people registered for the free webinar series, which offered pandemic-related guidance for businesses and the general public.
“Becky is the epitome of an HR Standout, demonstrating servant leadership and a passion for helping others,” said Dena Jacquay, chief administrative officer, Parkview Health.
