Oakshade Raceway was off last Saturday, but reliable sources passed down the unofficial 2023 track champions names. If this changes I will post the updates here. As it stands Eric Carr, is the Sport Compact Champion. This is Erics’ 4th Track Title at Oakshade Raceway. In the Dominator Stock class, Justin Gambler is this year’s champion. Josh Robertson won the Sportsman title, and this is his first championship at the track. Late Model ace, Devin Shiels picks up his 5th title at Oakshade Raceway.
On Friday, September 1st., it was night number one for the 410 Sprints at the Attica Ambush. Kerry Madsen held off Kyle Reinhardt after a late race caution and drove to his first ever Attica Raceway Park feature win to kick off the Attica Ambush with the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions. “The Mad Man” from St. Mary’s New South Wales, Australia led all 35 laps for the $6,000 pay day. On lap 27 things got interesting for the winner. Kyle Reinhardt made a charge to challenge Madsen. Reinhardt got beside Madsen on lap 30 but got sideways, allowing Madsen to get away and Tyler Courtney to take over the runner-up spot. Courtney closed the last three laps but ran out of time as Madsen went on to score his 12th career All Star win. Finishing behind your winner was, 2nd Tyler Courtney, 3rd Kyle Reinhardt, 4th Zeb Wise, and 5th Craig Mintz. The Late Models were in action. The fastest qualifier was Ryan Missler, 15.215. Devin Shiels won the feature, which was his 4th in a row at Attica Raceway Park and the 5th this season. Shiels has 20 victories at the track putting him in a tie for fourth on the division’s all-time win list with Ryan Missler. Rounding out the top 5, 2nd Kyle Moore, 3rd Ryan Markham, 4th Mike Bores and 5th Ryan Missler.
Saturday, September 2nd, Angola Indiana’s Zeb Wise who’s only 20 years old took the checker in the 410 Sprint Car feature and $12,000.00. He started to establish himself as a professional sprint car driver at Attica Raceway Park in April 2021 when he was 18 years old. Since then, Wise has proven he can compete and win against the best. Wise now has 11 total All Star wins, seven in 2023! Following the winner was 2nd Courtney Madsen, 3rd Kyle Reinhardt, and 4th Chris Windom. Tyler Courtney was the fastest qualifier with 00:12.907. In 305 Sprint Car action, Paul Weaver, six time and defending Fremont Fence and Guardrail 305 Sprint track champion, has had difficulties at Attica in 2023. He put it all together Saturday. He took the lead on lap two and cruising to a nearly six second win in a non-stop 25 lap feature event. The victory is the second of the year for Weaver at Attica and he now has 70 career 305 sprint wins at the track. Coupled with his three 410 feature wins, Weaver has 73 total feature wins to lead all drivers in the track’s history. It was Weaver’s eighth total win in 2023 as he has six victories at Fremont Speedway. Behind Weaver was 2nd Dustin Stroup, 3rd John Ivy, 4th Bryan Sebetto, and 5th Logan Riehl.
The 69th running of the Ted Horn 100 USAC Silver Crown race took place at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds Saturday afternoon. Justin Grant started on the pole and led all but the first lap of the 100-lapper. Only two more USAC Silver Crown events remain in 2023: Sept. 22-23 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, and Oct. 14 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park in Brownsburg, Ind.
Until next week keep turning left. Ron out! ohiosportsblitz@yahoo.com
