HOLGATE – Landon Brewer scored 19 points and Carson Altimus added 16 to lead the Antwerp Archers to a 49-36 victory over Holgate in the Archers’ boys basketball season opener Saturday evening.
Zaine McMichael chipped in six markers for the blue and white, which also got four points from Aiden Lichty and three by Reid Lichty. Ben Savina scored the remaining Antwerp point on a free throw.
The host Tigers took a 9-8 advantage after one quarter but Antwerp scored 13 points compared to Holgate’s dozen markers in the second stanza, tying the contest at 21-21 after two quarters.
In the third period, the blue and white picked up 11 markers compared to seven for the Henry County squad as Antwerp recorded a 32-28 lead at the end of three periods.
The Archers put the game away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tigers 17-8, to record the 49-36 victory.
Xavier McCord topped the Henry County squad with a dozen markers while Dylan Boecker posted ten points.
Other scorers for Holgate included Logan Miller (seven), Wyatt Meyer (five) and Kaiden Giesige (two).
In the junior varsity contest, Antwerp defeated the Tigers 52-19.
