The Indiana High School Athletic Association wrestling sectionals took place over the weekend with host New Haven capturing its own sectional by nipping second place Snider for the title.
The Bulldogs racked up 250 points to win the tournament with the Panthers finishing as runner-ups with 245-1/2 points. Homestead finished third at 230-1/2 followed by Leo (194), Woodlan (89) and Heritage (74).
Winners for New Haven included Julianna Ocampo (106), Karrington Cooper (113), Easton Doster (144), Aidan Elkins (150),
Leo’s Sean Harris won the title at 120 and teammate Eli Coolman was victorious at 190. Heritage’s Andrew Mirelez took first place at 138 with Woodlan’s Jack Culler capturing the championship in the 175 pound weight class.
Also advancing for the Lions are Jiler Gould (third, 106), Brayden Juday (third, 113), Nolan Butcher (third, 126), Joseph Perkins (third, 144), Daniel Espinosa (fourth, 150), Max Wiler (fourth, 157), Paul Woods (third, 165) and Isaiah Coolman (second, 285).
Bulldog wrestlers moving on as well include Timmy Rocha (second, 120), Bakari Cooper (fourth, 126), Brayden Clauser (fourth, 132), Lucas Barkley (third, 138), Ian Amstutz (third, 157), Vince Lepera (third, 175), Chase Cline (fourth, 190), Matt Poiry (second, 215) and Charles McGrant (third, 285).
Woodlan’s Shaiden Snyder (third, 132) and Heritage’s Logan Teichmann (fourth, 285) also advanced to the regionals.
