Wednesday, March 13 the Antwerp School hosted their 27th annual Hoops for Heart in honor of for the American Heart Association in memory of Jason Reeb who passed away unexpectedly in 1995 during a basketball game. His parents are Jon and Jan Reeb (mayor of Antwerp), and in 1996 they started this fundraiser to raise awareness about heart health.
At the end of the 2023 fundraiser, the Antwerp School had raised a cumulative total of $96,311.37 for the American Heart Association. This year’s event was on track to break the $100,000 and did so with no problem! Jan stated that $7830 was raised to now put the accumulated total at $104,141.37!
This was a great achievement from this year’s 300+ participants and all the previous students who made this incredible support for the American Heart Association possible. Prizes went to the High school and Middle School participants for various events including winning team, best costume, top free throw shooter, top three point shooter, and more. There were four hoops going at once for half court matches. Each of the games go to 14 points for high school and 12 points for junior high. Great job to all those who make a difference!
The Hoops for Heart Committee is grateful to all to contributed in both prizes and cash donations, making this the biggest year ever!
