It’s no secret that PC Workshop in Paulding Ohio is making is mark on the map in redefining the limits of individuals with disabilities in our communities. From the daily programming they offer their clients to the extracurriculars and outreach programs they do to operating the Limitless retail store in downtown Paulding, they stay busy in the community. This past week PC Workshops turned their direction to the movie making industry again. Many of you have watched or purchased “Limitless League” that came out last summer or their Christmas special that they did for the holidays. Now through the Easterseals organization, PC Workshop has entered a film festival challenge, the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge.
Entries from all over the worlds will be in this Film Challenge and it’s an online competition which will potentially make its reach farther than anything PC Workshop has done previously with the opportunity for winning prizes. Entrants were instructed to make their entire film – writing, filming, editing & posting – during the week of April 2-7. The theme of the film was to be a “Buddy Comedy”. PC Workshop started with writing their script according to the theme, and on the title, “An Unusual Perspective”. Jeremy Thompson, community integration specialist at PC Workshop, with his son, Caleb, helped make this film come to life with the PC Workshop clients.
The group who participated in this film challenge enjoyed all aspects of film making process. Some were writers, others were actors, editors, videographers, and voice overs. They set up with Caleb on Zoom to go through the script. It was a round table discussion to get the story ready for filming. There were criteria that needed to be adhered to in entering this challenge. After going through the pre-filming discussions, the writers and directors were satisfied their film was up to par and ready for the cameras.
Charles, a PC Workshop client, helped with the editing process as well as being one of the extras in the film. Working on this film, Charles learned many things, including, “Working with dogs, you realize that life doesn’t always go as planned.” The dogs’ attention span made filming a challenge for the rest of the crew.
Another one of the film participants, Michael, was a voice of one of the dogs in the film. He was happy he participated in this film. He stated making films was fun, and he’s excited that they could win prizes. He also stated it makes this mom proud. As with any project, things don’t always go according to plan, and Eric thought the bloopers were so funny! “We want everyone to watch and vote and share our film,” Eric stated. He had two roles in the film – he played himself as well as a voice of one of the dogs.
Here’s where you all come in! Once the voting begins for this Challenge, one of the awards that PC Workshop can win is an Awareness Award. The link to the film was released on Saturday, April 13, 2024 (the awareness campaign runs through April 21, 2024) and it needs to be watched, liked, shared, commented on, and re-watched and shared again! Keep watch on West Bend News social media pages for more opportunities to help PC Workshop get awareness out there for their Easterseals Disability Film Challenge beginning April 13-21. A Watch Party is planned to take place at Limitless soon, and they will also have the film available to watch on their YouTube channel after the challenge is over.
“An Unusual Perspective” is sure to exemplify another divergence into who PC Workshop truly are in our community and how important their contribution is to all. Charles said it best when he stated, “We’re like everyone else … in our own ways.” Good words to remember.
