Indians too much for Raiders

It was a tale of two games at Wayne Trace Friday evening as the Lady Raiders hosted Fort Recovery in Division III sectional softball action.

Wayne Trace appeared to take control early, scoring once in the first and again in the third for a 2-0 advantage.

However, the Lady Indians tied the game in the fourth and pulled away from there for a 10-2 win to claim a sectional championship.

The Mercer County squad plated three runs in the sixth to open a 5-2 advantage before sealing the victory with a five-run seventh.

Jenna Homan threw a complete game for the victory, getting stronger throughout the contest in fanning seven Raider hitters while allowing six hits, two runs (one earned) and four walks.

Raegan McGarvey suffered the loss for the Lady Raiders, surrendering ten hits, ten runs (five earned) and two walks while striking out seven in a complete-game effort.

Homan singled twice for the Lady Indians at the plate, scoring three times and driving in two runs. Ella Schoen singled twice, scored twice and posted two runs batted in with Ava Grisez singling, doubling and scoring a trio of runs.

Kylie Post singled and doubled while driving in two runs for the Mercer County squad and Emma Will doubled and scored once. Alexis Grisez also singled and touched home plate once for the Lady Indians.

Logen Bland doubled and scored twice for Wayne Trace with Kaitlin Slade, Tianna Sinn, Katie Anna Baumle, Allison Noggle and Brenna Parker all singled once. Ava Zartman and Slade both drove in one run for the Lady Raiders.
