The Paulding County Commissioners recently signed a proclamation which made Paulding County a “Purple Heart County”. This action makes Paulding County the 12th county in the State of Ohio to be proclaimed a Purple Heart County on the National Military Order of the Purple Heart Trail.

The purpose of the National Purple Heart Trail is to create a symbolic and honorary system of roads, highways, bridges, and other monuments that give tribute to the men and women who have been awarded the Purple Heart medal.

Currently there are Purple Heart Trail designations in 45 states as well as Guam. In Ohio there are 73 cities, 12 counties, 5 schools, 2 bridges, 1 museum and 1 VFW Post that are listed on the Purple Heart Trail website, with John Paulding VFW Post 587 holding that distinction.
