In small town America, each community has its own unique history and components that make up that history. Whether it be buildings, events, parks, etc. there are certain things that leave their mark on a town or community. Dari Delite is one such fixture for the village of Hicksville. It is a Dairy Bar/Diner owned and operated currently by Lucas Horg. It sits on E High Street across from the Hicksville school building.
Dari Delite has gone by a few different names in its past. It began in 1952 as Tasty Freeze all through the 60s, then was named Albersons in the 70s, and Hicov’s Hut in the 80s, and more recently Dari-Di-Lite.
Over the years the name and owners have changed but the local landmark has continued the serve the local community with delicious food and sweet frozen treats. The current owners are relocating overseas to Australia to start a new chapter in their lives and are seeking a new owner to take the reins. If a new owner is not found by October the restaurant will permanently close its doors for good after 72 years of business and a local summer tradition will be lost forever.
Dari Delite hires a lot of local high school kids which often gives them their very first job experience. It has seen several upgrades since Horg has owned it, including: a POS system, ice machine, 2 massive top of the line high capacity Taylor soft serve machines, and a dairy-free range of hard dip and dairy-free dole whip soft serve.
Take a hop, skip and a jump over to Hicksville to check out this landmark community business.
