Memorial weekend racing in the tri-state didn’t disappoint racing fans. Friday night McComb’s, Rusty Schlenk dominated the 40 lap, Valvoline American Late Model Iron Man Series and drove the #91 to victory and his 41st career win at Attica Raceway Park. He took home $5,000.00. Finishing behind Rusty was Kyle Moore, Seth Daniels, Ryan Missler, and Rod Conley. Indiana driver Cale Thomas led all 30 laps of the 410 Sprints feature for his first win of the year at Attica in a race that had one caution. Thomas, leads the track’s points, made some great moves, particularly coming off the top side of the track early and patiently picking through traffic for his third career win at Attica, holding off a charging Jordan Ryan, Trey Jacobs, Stuart Brubaker, and Tyler Gunn. The 305 make up feature was won by Dustin Stroup. He doubled up by getting the win in the nights regular 305 feature. Rain forced Limaland Motorsports Park to cancel their races on Friday.
Saturday night Rusty Schlenk kept the momentum going at Oakshade Raceway he became a six-time winner of the annual Barney Oldfield Race with a dramatic last lap pass for the lead in the 40-lap Valvoline American Late Model Iron Man Series feature event. The win earned him a second $5,000.00 for his efforts in two nights of racing. Adam Lantz drove flag to flag and picked up the Sportsman feature win. Jake Rendel won the Dominator Stock feature.
Rain spoiled Kyle Larson’s chance to complete “The Double” on Sunday, but USAC driver Kody Swanson earned podium finishes in “A Triple” on Saturday in three different race cars on two different tracks. Saturday morning at 9AM he finished second in a 30-lap pavement midget race for Bertrand Motorsports at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park on Saturday morning. Jake Trainer won the event. Then Swanson made history by leading every lap of the prestigious “Hoosier Hundred” in a Doran Binks Racing USAC Silver Crown car at the same track. Kody and his crew headed north to compete at Anderson Speedway in the 76th annual running of the Little 500. He finished third in the biggest pavement sprint car race in the world after leading at the start. Caleb Armstrong passed leader Dakoda Armstrong on the last lap of the race for the win.
One of Limaland Raceway Park’s fan favorites, Todd Sherman took his Modified north to Butler Motor Speedway and found victory lane. Angola Motor Sports Park had their first race night of 2024. Winners were Late Model Tony Dager, Street Stocks Parker Moyer, FWD Chip Heintzelman and Modified Jordan Gatton. Justin Claucherty won the DTS annual Joy Fair 100 for Outlaw Asphalt Late Models at Flat Rock Speedway. The Motor City 50 for Figure 8 cars was won by Billy Earley and the Street Stock feature was won by Jeremy Vanderhoof.
Tuesday, May 28th the World of Outlaws returned to Fremont Speedway. It was a homecoming of sorts for Carson Macedo. The California native made a fantastic move on the opening lap of the World of Outlaws feature, driving from third to the lead and then survived several cautions to score the $12,000 pay day in the Rick Ferkel Tribute. Macedo came to Ohio in 2016 to drive a second car for Les and Craig Mintz and scored a pair of wins at “The Track That Action Built.” So, for Macedo, the Outlaws return to Fremont Speedway after an eight year hiatus coupled with his great runs as of late, had him chomping at the bit for his second World of Outlaws win of 2024. Until next week, keep your wheels down. Ron out!
