PC Republicans Geared Up for Election

The Republicans met on Thursday, September 5 at their temporary headquarters next to Past Time Cafe! The event was filled with numerous people from around the county getting ready for the Lincoln-Reagan Banquet. The Thursday evening banquet has tickets available from Laurie Lucas, Republican Chair. The featured speaker is from the Ohio Press Network, the renowned, Jack Windsor.

Laurie Lucas ordered the meeting with the pledge of allegiance and a prayer by Stan Harmon. Jan Coomers gave the secretary’s report and read the minutes about the last meeting.

Barry Rupp gave the treasurer’s report and mentioned there were deposits and more bills. 

Laurie Lucas discussed the new slate cards. People like them. The Defiance County Republican Party asked that  Paulding County’s not be similar to theirs, so it was redesigned by West Bend Printing. Lisa McClure hosted Bernie Moreno at the family farm. Senator Jim Jordan spoke at the Paulding Putnam Electric Coop event that took place a couple weeks ago. Ben Shapiro will be in Putnam County at the Knights of Columbus Hall outside of Ottawa, on October 10. Tickets are available at www.putnamgop.org

The Grand Opening for the Paulding County Republican headquarters is Sunday, September 8; 1:00-3:00 p.m. 

The banquet is still needing veteran sponsors at amounts of $100, $250, and $500 are requested.

The headquarters hours are Tuesdays 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursdays 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m., Fridays 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Mike Weible, Paulding County Commissioner, said the OSU Extension building is all being refreshed, and should be ready soon. New TVs, projector and sound system will be coming soon. Dr. Kuhn retired so the county has a couple deputies who are going to be the Coroner in training. Ed Bohn announced his replacement when he retires at the end of the year. It will be Aaron Timm. A solar field will be put in for the county electricity consumption and there is a 0% USDA loan funding the project. The Senior Center is asking for increasing their half-mil tax to a 1 mil on the ballot. There is a .25 percent reduction in the PCMRDD. Mike also stated there are quite a few levies on the ballot this year.

State Rep. Roy Klopfenstein talked about issue one and why it must be rejected. It will change Ohio votes because of a forced gerrymandering. He also said that getting slate cards out there will be good because we need good Ohio Supreme Court judges.

Stan Harmon gave a report on what is going on with the Board of Elections and how the training is proceeding for this next election

A Republican Board member is needed to be a Central Committee member to eventually replace Dave Cline. Stan said that poll workers are always needed.

The meeting adjourned following a discussion on the Sunday open house.
