Archers pull away for win over Cadets

ANTWERP – Host Antwerp picked up its second win in three games as the Archers broke open a close game at halftime to pull away and post a 33-6 victory over Hilltop Friday night in Archer Field.

The blue and white led 7-0 at the intermission after a one-yard touchdown plunge by Derek Hines in the second quarter.

Antwerp then broke the game open in the third quarter with three touchdowns, a pair coming via the passing attack, as the Archers expanded the margin to 25-6 entering the final stanza.

Tavin Sholl then wrapped up the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth quarter to set the final at 33-6.

Hines finished the night 9 of 17 passing for 87 yards with two touchdown passes while adding 37 rushing yards on a dozen carries.

Zac Salas led the Antwerp ground attack with 13 rushes for 113 yards, including an 80-yard scamper for a score in the second quarter.

Sholl topped the Archer receivers with four receptions for 25 yards.

Scott Bowers rumbled for 98 yards on 25 carries to lead Hilltop and quarterback Cameron Shimp completed 14 of 23 passes for 239 yards.

Cameron Schlosser picked up nine receptions for 121 yards with Brock Kesler recording four catches for 113 yards to aid the Hilltop cause.
