Rodney Charles Dix

PAULDING, OH:

Rodney Charles Dix, 86, of Paulding, sadly passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Brookview Healthcare Center in Defiance, Ohio. He was surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and dear friends who will all miss him immensely.

He was born on October 13, 1938 to Virgil and Edna (Feister) Dix in Ohio. His mother Edna, sadly passed away at a young age and he was raised by his father and stepmother, Irma Dix. For 36 years he was married to the first and only love of his life from the moment he met her until the moment he passed, Norma Jean Porter, who was the most loving wife, mother and grandmother anyone could wish for. Together they happily welcomed and are survived by six children: Charles A Dix, Connie J Osstifin, Michael L (Ava J) Dix, Cherie S (Michael T) Nicely, Jeffrey C (Jennifer L) Dix and Randy E (Candice E) Dix. Lovingly Rodney and Norma raised their family on Tom Tim Drive in Paulding, Ohio.

Rodney was the definition of a dedicated, loving and caring grandpa who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always reminding them how much grandma would have loved them too. He is survived by fourteen grandchildren: Naomi S “Tiny” (Justin C Brodbeck) Nicely, Benjamin D (Elizabeth M) Nicely, Curtis E Dix, Andrea N Osstifin, Cody L (Amanda) Dix, Stephanie J Osstifin, Chelsea M Nicely, Tristan K Dix, Courtney C Dix, Bradie J Dix, Trevor E Nicely, Reagan M Dix, Ella R Dix and Wyatt E Dix. Along with five great-grandchildren Amara R Herman-Dix, Connor D Nicely, Colton J Nicely, Tyler A Nicely and Thea G Nicely. 

Rodney was a member of the Auglaize River Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, located in Defiance, Ohio. Throughout his life he was an active member in Defiance, Antwerp and Napoleon Kingdom Halls. Rodney and his family even zoomed the meeting from his room on the morning of November 3rd. It was his strong faith and dedicated relationship with our heavenly father, Jehovah, that provided him with the beautiful hope of the resurrection. He will forever be in Jehovah’s book of remembrance until one day we can once again all be united on a beautiful paradise earth, just how Jehovah God intended. 

Rodney was an employee of BF Goodrich in Woodburn, IN until the late 1990s. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Whether it be a trip to the ice cream shop, playing a game of monopoly or euchre, fishing, bowling, watching a ball game or playing with his kids and grandkids, he treasured being a part of his loved one’s lives. And these memories they will forever hold on to and cherish.

Rodney is survived by his sister Ruth Dix Grieser, sister-in-law Irene Andrews and brother-in-law Rex Sierer and several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife Norma in 1996 who forever had his heart, parents Virgil and Edna Dix, stepmother Irma Dix siblings: Virgil Dix, Ray Dix, Patricia Gardner, son-in-law John Osstifin III and several brothers and sisters-in-law. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Auglaize River Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 24864 Watson Road, Defiance, Ohio 43512. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am at the Kingdom Hall.
