They Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Organization is known as HOBY. HOBY was founded by Hugh O’Brien in 1958 as a nonprofit organization with the mission we work toward today, that is to inspire a global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. One of the programs that schools can participate in is the State Leadership Seminar.
Student ambassadors are invited to 3 & 4 day seminars each spring and summer. The students explore personal leadership skills and values, and practice those skills while collaborating with diverse groups. They leverage their abilities as the apply the value of service leadership to make a positive impact in their communities.
These student ambassadors participate in facilitated dialogue and abilities-based workshops to develop awareness of their leadership strengths and an understanding of their leadership values. Through these dynamic activities with their peers, students hone their skills and learn to recognize, amplify and collaborate with the diverse strengths of others.
Held on college or university campuses, our programs give students a taste of college life while they delve into the engaging and fun leadership development curriculum. One weekend at a HOBY seminar unlocks a student leadership potential and helps them gain the confidence to make a positive impact on the world around them.
In Northwest Ohio these seminars are held every June on the Ohio Northern Campus at Ada, Ohio. Due to the generosity of the Hicksville Kiwanis Club, Hicksville High School has been able to send at least one student each summer.
