A slow start to Friday’s non-league boys basketball game Friday night proved to be the difference as Fort Jennings jumped in front quickly and went on to a 59-49 victory over Antwerp.

The Musketeers opened up an eight-point lead at the end of one period at 22-14 and the Putnam County squad added to it in the second stanza.

Fort Jennings picked up a dozen markers in the period while holding Antwerp to nine as the Musketeers recorded a 34-23 halftime margin.

Antwerp made things interesting in the third quarter, outscoring Fort Jennings 21-13 as the blue and white sliced the deficit to 47-44 entering the final period.

However, the Putnam County squad added a dozen points in the fourth quarter while limiting the Archers to five in sealing the 59-49 victory.

The orange and black was led by Ian Howbert with fifteen points on the night while Calvin Menke and Jarron Swick also reached double digits with 12 and 11 markers, respectively.

Owen Calvelage recorded nine points for the Putnam County squad while Adam Hoersten finished with seven and Brandt Menke picked up five. 

Zaine McMIchael totaled a game high twenty-seven points for Antwerp with Aiden Lichty chipping in eight markers for the Archers.

Drew Eaken, Tavin Sholl and Keegan Gray-Wyckoff all had four points for the blue and white while Hampton Rogge finished with one basket.
