The Edgerton Lady Bulldogs showcased their depth and offensive prowess Wednesday night, defeating the Antwerp Lady Archers 58-38 in the Route 49 Tournament at Edgerton High School.
The Bulldogs surged ahead early, outscoring Antwerp 18-4 in the first quarter. Led by Katilyn Burke’s commanding 14-point performance and Gretchen Keppeler’s versatile play with 13 points and a critical free throw, Edgerton maintained control throughout the game. The Lady Bulldogs’ balanced scoring attack, complemented by Casey Everetts’ three three-pointers, kept Antwerp on their heels.
Antwerp struggled to find rhythm in the first quarter but fought back in the second, led by a stellar showing from Caroline Rohrs, who accounted for 24 of the Lady Archers’ 38 points. Raeley Franklin and Briley Bagley chipped in with three points apiece, but Edgerton’s defense held strong to limit Antwerp’s overall scoring opportunities.
Edgerton extended its lead with a dominant 19-point third quarter, highlighted by Alivia Farnham’s aggressive play, contributing 13 points, including seven from the free-throw line. The Bulldogs closed out the game by controlling possessions in the fourth quarter, holding Antwerp to single digits once again.
Despite the loss, Rohrs’ performance stood out as a highlight for Antwerp, with the senior guard hitting 10 field goals and going 4-for-5 from the free-throw line. However, the Lady Archers couldn’t overcome Edgerton’s efficient team play and defensive pressure.
The victory advances Edgerton in the tournament and boosts their momentum as they prepare for the next round. Antwerp, while disappointed with the result, will look to regroup and build on their flashes of strong play in the coming games.
