The Wayne Trace Wrestling Program competed at the Defiance Tri-State Border Wars on December 27th-28th. The tournament brought in 51 teams from multiple states.
In the 113-pound weight class, sophomore Colton Kimmel finished the tournament with a record of 2-2. Colton Kimmel defeated Bentley Roelle of Findlay by tech fall with a score of 17-1 in 2:20. The younger Kimmel was then defeated by Ethan Saneholtz of Napoleon by pin in 2:40. In the consolation bracket, Colton pinned Jillian Sempkowski of Van Wert in just 44 seconds. Kimmel then lost to Cannon Bergeron of Taylor in overtime with a score of 13-10.
In the 120-pound weight class, senior Corbin Kimmel finished the tournament with a record of 4-1 and a second-place finish. In the first round, Kimmel defeated Gabe Miley of ELD with a tech fall score of 17-2 in just 1:26. Josh Bishop was then pinned by Kimmel 2:16. For the quarter finals, the senior defeated Fletcher Heinze of Anthony Wayne with a tech fall score of 17-1 in just one minute. Kimmel pressed forward to defeat Jordan Henderson of Indian Lake by another tech fall score of 17-1 in 2:39. For the finals match, Corbin wrestled Landon Sopha of Yale. Sopha defeated Kimmel in overtime with a score of 10-3.
Corbin Kimmel also ended the tournament in third place for the most tech falls in the least amount of time, with 3 tech falls in just 5 minutes and 5 seconds. Corbin was also on the leaderboard for the fastest tech falls, ending in 2nd place with a tech fall in 1 minute and ending in 6th place with a tech fall in 1 minute and 26 seconds.
