A strong and spirited Paulding Cardinals basketball team traveled to The Palace on Friday, January 10 to take on the Wayne Trace staff in a much-anticipated game. It had taken a number of years for the wounds of the staff to heal after the Cardinal’s last visit several years ago, but the Raiders felt that with some younger teachers, including the intimidating 6’5” Mr. Goodrich, they might have a chance to win this year.
With the Wayne Trace band playing and the cheerleaders leading the noisy crowd in full-force, the gym was electric as the teams took to the floor. “Watching the basketball game between the WTHS staff and Paulding Cardinals was exhilarating!” commented one student. The Cardinals went out to an early lead and held it through the first half, only to have the staff close the gap in the third quarter before losing their energy and falling to the Cardinals with a final score of 53-42. Everyone enjoyed their time cheering on the Cardinals team which included Wayne Trace graduate TJ McClain and current Wayne Trace 8th grader Jonah Sinn. The Raiders wish the Cardinals the best of luck this season while also looking forward to a rematch sometime in the future!
