Over the past several months, students in the Cross-Categorical class at Wayne Trace have been teaming up with senior art students in order to create a beautiful collection of artworks as part of an Art Possible Ohio Adaptation, Integration, and the Arts grant. Under the guidance of local artist Jayne Smith, these students have been inspired to work together and learn a variety of new weaving techniques, from branch weaving and making birds’ nests to fashioning table runners and creating a colorful twelve-foot long fence weaving. In their last studio session together this month, Defiance artist Zoe Smith joined the artistic team as each student learned how to finger weave their very own scarf just in time for the extremely cold weather.
The students and staff at Wayne Trace are extremely grateful for teaching artist Jayne Smith, sharing her time and talents with them over the past five months through this creative residency, and they look forward to working with Jayne again in the future!
