OAKWOOD, OH:
Catherine M. Matson, 86, of Oakwood, passed away at 3:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Van Wert Manor. She was born April 3, 1938, in Paulding County to the late Cletus and Mabel (Saxton) Bland. On September 29, 1956, she married John Ward Flechtner, who preceded her in death on October 10, 1957. On October 27, 1973, she married Jerry Eugene Matson, who preceded her in death on November 19, 2015.
She is survived by five siblings: Rae Holtsberry of Hedges, Glenn (Bev) Bland of Defiance, Harry (Pam) Bland of St. Joe, IN, Greg Bland of Scott and Wilma Bland of Haviland; sister-in-law, Patty Bland of Paulding; brother-in-law, Larry Greathouse of Grover Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and spouses, she was also preceded in death by her son, Johnny Von Flechtner; three siblings: Lester Bland, Robert Bland and Mary Greathouse; and brother-in-law, Charles Holtsberry.
Catherine retired in 2000 from Defiance Hospital where she worked as an x-ray technician. She was a member of Trinity Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Defiance. She loved roller skating, singing karaoke and traveling with her friends and family. Catherine visited all 50 states, the Canadian Rockies and Germany.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Trinity Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 20287 OH-18, Defiance with Pastor Bud Henke officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Oakwood. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood and 12 to 1 p.m. on Sunday at the church.
