
In celebrating West Bend Printing & Publishing’s 20th year in business, West Bend News editors and columnists are offering a prestigious prize to a student who exhibits exemplary writing talent. In this first ever Writing Contest, we call upon fellow essayists and scribblers in Junior High or High School to submit their essay of “What does HOME mean to YOU?”
Entries must be a minimum of 100 words or maximum of 1,000 words, and entrants must live in the West Bend News readership area. Essays must be submitted by March 28, 2025. Email your essay with your Name, Grade, School Name, and Hometown to info@westbendnews.net or drop the essay off at the West Bend News office in Antwerp.
Judging Criteria:
• Understanding the topic
• Original Thinking relative to the topic
• Effectiveness in presenting a point-of-view
• Literary Style grammar & spelling
Judges’ Panel will consist of a Language Arts teacher from one of the area high schools, a WBN columnist, and West Bend News editor.
Prizes will be the following: JH – 1st place – $50, 2nd place – $30, 3rd place – $20; HS – 1st place – $50, 2nd place – $30, 3rd place – $20
Winning essays will be published in the April 21, 2025 edition of West Bend News.
